How a tournament runs and the standings

What happens after the draw, how to read the standings, and what advancing means.

When the organizer starts the tournament, the system divides the teams into groups and draws the matches of the first round. From then on the tournament page can be followed live: new matches and results appear without refreshing.

Group stage

In a group, everyone plays everyone once. The standings rank by points: a win is 3 points. With equal points, the difference between cups scored and conceded decides, then the number of cups scored. Next to the standings you also see the form of your last 3 matches.

Knockout stage

Here a loss means elimination, and the winner automatically goes into the next round of the bracket. If the number of teams advancing is odd, a randomly chosen team gets a bye: it appears in the list as a 1–0 match without an opponent, closed immediately. In a combined tournament the top two teams of each group advance.

A group tournament has no knockout stage: after the rounds are played, the organizer simply closes the tournament. On closing, the system announces the winner: in knockout and combined tournaments the winner of the final, in a group tournament the team with the best overall record.

The results

The result is recorded by the organizer in the panel, with the score of both teams. Until both numbers are entered, the match can't be closed. This is so that a half-entered result doesn't accidentally produce a 0-point loss. There is no draw in beer pong, so a match can't be closed with an equal score either.

If a wrong result was recorded, tell the organizer before the round is closed. Once the next round has been drawn, the results of earlier rounds are locked, because changing a winner would leave an inconsistent bracket. The results of unclosed rounds can be corrected until the tournament ends, and the standings recalculate by themselves after the correction.
