Checking in at the venue

Check-in happens automatically when you arrive. It has a time window and a distance.

Check-in records that you were really at the event. It is a condition of several quests, it puts you into the organizer's attendance data, and it is how we notify you when the event's gallery opens later.

There is no button and no QR code for event check-in: the app does it by itself when you arrive at the venue. Venue check-in works separately from this, you start that on the venue's page.

Two conditions

How it happens

In two ways. If the app is open and you are on the home screen, then at an event that you requested a reminder for and that is currently running, we quietly check you in within about 50 meters. If you granted background location permission, the app notices your arrival even when it isn't in the foreground: in that case you also get a "We checked you in to this event" notification.

Both need location permission. Without it, event check-in can't run, because there is nothing to measure the distance from.

If it didn't happen

It can't be made up afterwards, and it can't be started by hand. If it is important that it is recorded, allow location, and open the app on the home screen at least once at the venue. In a large building or a crowd the GPS is less accurate; in a more open place the signal is better.

Why can't I find the check-in button?

Because there isn't one. Event check-in is automatic, based on your position. The venue page does have a manual check-in, which we describe in the venues article.

Can I turn off background location?

Yes, in your phone's settings, for the Vibelify app. There is no separate switch for it inside the app. Without it everything else works, only the automatic check-in is missed if the app isn't open.

The event has already ended. Can I still check in?

No. Check-in closes 5 hours after the start, and nothing is recorded after that.
